Books 1 is well established with no shortage of reading material and is an informal discussion group for anyone interested in books new, old, fiction or non fiction. A major benefit of being a member of the group is that members are encouraged to read books that they would not otherwise tackle. Another benefit is hearing other people's views.

In the course of a year everyone chooses a book. Copies of the chosen book are then provided by Hertfordshire Libraries. Members take turns to be the nominated leader for the month. The leader opens up the meeting by saying something about the author which places the book in context.
