Members and Visitors

General Information

  • On the first or second Wednesday of the month we have a monthly meeting with a guest speaker. Guest visitors are welcome to come to one of the meetings to see what we do. See the events page for information.
  • Our annual subscription is only £15. To join the only requirement is that you must be retired or semi-retired from full time work, there is no age restriction. Contact our Membership Secretary Penny for more information.
  • As a member you can join as many of our interest groups as you wish, unless they are already full, in which case why not start another? The groups provide opportunities to come together to learn for fun, explore ideas, skills, and enjoy activities together - and make new friends.
  • As well as the monthly meetings there are regular group activities and events throughout the year including talks, outings, and social events.
  • Sarratt and District u3a has a current membership of just under 290. We are one of around 1,200 u3as around the UK. Each u3a is unique and is an independent charity with its own constitution and policies. Our committee members can be found on our contacts page.

When you join u3a you join a local group but you also become a member of the wider u3a family with regional and national events and activities. The University of the Third Age (now known as u3a) was founded in 1973, reaching the UK in 1982. The u3a movement has almost half a million UK members and is non-religious and non-political. No qualifications are sought or offered. Learning is fundamental to u3a. We learn for fun, and we enjoy it. We don’t do it to gain qualifications or job opportunities. There is more information about the national movement here.

u3a members can access a wide range of free online talks, workshops, and courses through their membership. Most sessions are led by fellow members, sharing their expertise, with additional talks from notable speakers and organizations. There is also a monthly u3a podcast.

Photography

If you pose for a photo at a u3a event then the photo is owned by the person taking the photo (copyright) and if the photo is to be used in our newsletter, on our website, or elsewhere in u3a (or even published outside of u3a) then you should be asked if this is OK. If, however, a photo is taken at an event or venue and you just happen to be around then it is as if you are going about your business in the street in the normal course of your life. Any photos on this website that include people posing have been used in good faith. We believe that agreement has been received by those concerned either directly or via the owner of the photo. If you see yourself posing on any one of them and feel that you were not asked for permission and want the photo removed then please let us know via Contact Website Enquiries and this will be done.
